Fred's War
Maryhill Burgh Halls

Fred's War tells the extraordinary story of the 1st Cameronians, who achieved notoriety for selling The Great War's earliest front line photographs.

Fred's War is an exhibition of photographs and artefacts from 1914 to 1915 and covers some of the earliest images of the Great War. Follow Fred Davidson and his band of brothers from the parade ground at the Wyndford Barracks in Glasgow to the trenches of the Western Front.

Fred Churchill Davidson, Medical Officer to the 1st Cameronians, packed his folding Ansco Buster Brown Pocket camera in his kit bag when he left with the first draft of soldiers in WW1.
His pictures cover training in the barracks, the retreat from Mons and life in the trenches on the front line near Armentieres.
