Remembrance Day Service
The Honourable Company of Master Mariners
A Service of Remembrance organised by the Honourable Company of Master Mariners commemorating all those of the Merchant and Royal Navies who lost their lives at sea during the two World Wars and later conflicts.
The national Merchant Navy Memorial comprises individual memorials for the First World War, Second World War and Falklands Campaign. They record the names of members of the Merchant Navy and fishing fleets killed in those conflicts for whom there is no known grave but the sea. That for the First World War bears 11,541 names together with those of the 1,458 vessels from which they were lost. The Second World War memorial records 23,832 seafarers and their 2,174 ships while that for the Falklands Campaign has the names of 17 Merchant Navy members from 4 ships.
The Service begins at 1030.
