Commemorating the Somme at The Devil’s Porridge Museum
The Devil’s Porridge Museum is commemorating the anniversary of the Battle of the Somme with a display celebrating several local men who served in the battle.
The display was put together from research into the local soldiers who fought and died at the Somme. Although it proved difficult to trace every name, several local men will be remembered in the display, which opens on 1 July 2016.
Members of the public are invited to contribute information on any of the men featured in the display, or anyone who served that the museum has not been able to research.
The museum will also be hosting a talk by Stuart Eastwood, Museum Curator at Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life, all about the Somme and in particular, the battalions of the Border Regiment, on Thursday 14 July.
