Northern Ireland Battle of Messines and First World War commemoration events June 2017

To mark the centenary of the Battles of Messines, a number of events are planned across Northern Ireland.


 

Event: National Museums Northern Ireland 1917 Lunchtime lectures

Location: All lectures take place in the Lecture Theatre in the Ulster Museum, Belfast

Lectures are free of charge but booking is recommended by contacting the Ulster Museum Reception at ulstermuseumreception@nmni.com or (028)90440000.

Speakers include Professor Diarmuid Ferriter, Dr Tim Bowman and poet Michael Longley and covers topics such as the Battle of Messines, Rise of Sinn Fein, Thomas Ashe and the Mountjoy hunger strike, Russian Revolution, US Entry into war and poetry readings.

Event: ‘WW1 Today: Sharing Community Research during the Centenary of WW1’. Free event for community groups and individuals interested in First World War heritage projects.

Location: The event will be held at the Ulster Museum on Monday 19 June 2017, 10am – 5pm.

Event: Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council in association with The Royal British Legion will be hosting a programme of events to mark the centenary of the Battle of Messines Ridge and the Ginchy Cross from Tuesday 6th June to Sunday 11th June.
