Explore the impact of war on Kent and Medway in an interactive timeline

Kent Libraries, Registration & Archives has extensive First World War local history material to showcase and some compelling stories to tell.

One of the ways to share these stories is through the development of an online timeline of Kent and Medway during the First World War.

Currently, there are 275 entries for events in the county throughout the war years and into the 1920s, when commemorative work was at its height in Kent.

The timeline covers headline events – such as enemy air raids – and also more minor stories.

Users can search the timeline to find items of interest throughout the First World War period. The majority of articles link through to the library and archive catalogues, and give users the chance to discover additional sources to improve their understanding of the events.

There is a search facility on the website, enabling users to search the timeline by keyword or by subject categories.

Time2Give Kent library volunteers were involved in the development of the timeline.
